UV/Optical/NIR imaging

UltraVISTA

The UltraVISTA program aims to provide extremely deep near-infrared YJHKs and narrow-band NB118 photometry on the COSMOS field. The survey is divided into two components, the "deep" component which covers a 1.5 x 1.2 deg contiguous region in the COSMOS field, and the "ultra-deep" component which covers 4 ultra-deep stripes in the field.

Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam

We have used University of Hawaii observing time (PI: G. Hasinger) to obtain new, deep optical images with the Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) instrument.
We have obtained a total of 2, 4, 2, and 6 hours exposure in the g, i, z, and y-band, respectively in two observing runs in March 2014 and January 2015.
The seeing was between 0.5 and 1.1”. For the y-band in particular, these observations are the deepest ever taken in the COSMOS field. The y-band limit
is about 1 magnitude deeper than the Ultravista data. The following image shows a comparison of the y-band image from Ultravista (left) and HSC (right).
